Kalliopi Nikolopoulou was educated in Greece, the United States, and Germany. Before joining UB, she was Andrew Mellon Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature at Vanderbilt University, and a Visiting Assistant Professor of English at the University of Cyprus. Trained as a modernist, her current research has returned to earlier influences and interests that involve the thought and literature of Greek antiquity. She focuses on the relation of ancients and moderns--particularly on the impact of Platonic philosophy and tragedy on modern thought. Her book, Tragically Speaking: On the Use and Abuse of Theory for Life, is forthcoming from the University of Nebraska Press in Fall 2012 (inaugural volume of the Symploke Series in Contemporary Theory).
