::  Gérard Bucher
:: Melodia E. Jones Professor of French

Gérard C. Bucher studied literature, linguistics, anthropology, and philosophy in Strasbourg, Aix-en Provence, Tubingen, and Paris, and received his Ph.D (Doctorat d'État) at the École des Hautes Études in Paris. He has authored numerous articles on literature (Bernanos, Mallarmé, Rimbaud, Robbe-Grillet, etc.), semiotics, and religion (Judaism and Christianity), and three books: La vision et l'énigme, Éléments pour une analytique du logos (Paris: éd. du Cerf, 1989), Le testament poétique (Paris: Belin, 1994) and most recently, L'Imagination de l'origine (Paris: L'Harmattan, 2000). His research centers on the relation between religion and fiction, and consequently among anthropology and philosophy, critical theory, and philosophy (his main sources of reference are M. Heidegger, J. Derrida, and R. Girard).
